I want to know if it’s possible to purchase a domain name, put up a website and get ranked for a set of keywords in under a month. People talk of the Google Sandbox and I understand that it’s in a search engine’s best interest to make sure that a website will “stand the test of time” before ranking them well in their rankings, but what of sites that are brand new, but have valuable information on them?

I just read this on http://www.caffeinemarketing.com/?p=96 “If you’ve submitted your web site to the search engines than the spider robots will be searching for your robots.txt file. If they do not find one the robot generates a ‘404 File Not Found’ error everytime. These robots might be searching for that file several times a day. Adding the file to your root directory will help eliminate these errors and boost your rankings.”
Is this true? Can robots.txt help with search engine optimization?

My website is not ranking on the yahoo search engine anymore, I used to get good rankings on Google, MSN and Yahoo. While it is ranking successfully both on Google and MSN, at one point in time I could not find my website on yahoo anymore.

without going to the google or yahoo results and clinking next, next, next?
I would like to test my website under various search terms, and see how changes affect the raw rankings as well. Does google or yahoo provide something for their individual sites, or is this something you need an SEO program for?

I am trying to increase my search engine ranking for my website www.textbooks100.com. What are the best ways to see a quick increase in rankings? Also, any suggestions for how to build a commission based sales program where those who send me customers get a commission when leads buy?
