I need to know the best ways to improve my search engine rankings and increase traffice to my website. This is an ecommerce site that I’m trying to build and promote. Any advice would be greatly appeciated. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

HI Derek T,dare i say it again for the1,000,000.time,there we go again,as soon as a question like yours is asked, people automatically think of search engines.
They do get you traffic,if you’re rich and have time to spend on them and know what you’re doing.
There are much simpler, effective, better ways for roi and laser targeted to your particular niche.
98% of marketers dont use their brains, they’re conditioned to think one-dimentional.

You’ll be glad you did.
The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.
Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.
You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.
Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, “Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or
DSL?” And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.
A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.
Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.
Placement of Metatags:
A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.
The second metatag is the “Description” which is
usually 41 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one’s goods and services.
And the very last category – “Keywords” are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
“Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.
Good luck!
This is it:
Search The World – Website Index
It’s rarely an instant return on the Internet. You need your website coming up relevant to what people “search for” on the Internet. It takes time to get placement in the right places within the Internet and if you’re listed in the right category of searches you stand a better chance of returns. The following is one of the better ways.
For a small charge you can have a “Permanent” website advertisement placed in an index such as this in a choice of around 750 categories to target your business trade.
A Permanent listing means getting permanent indexing by search engines.
This will raise your website profile and increase its chances of extra sales because this site is indexed by the search engines placing your site within “public searches”.
The advantage of a site like this is that you don’t have to update your listing again.
For a permanent ongoing promotion:
http://www.search-the-world.com/form/listing
This will only cost you $6.00 for a permanent listing that will eventually get picked up in search engine searches. You can also get a much higher profile permanent advertisement as well for $20.00. You never have to list or pay with them again.
I found free advertising sites don’t work very well but this one off payment site does.
If you don’t believe me type in “search-the-world.com” into the Yahoo search box and you’ll see thousands of links returned. This site really works and its probably the best kept secret around!
Search The World Articles
By using their new articles site:
http://www.search-the-world.com/articles
You can add articles about products, services or things you know about and add your website url details at the bottom of each. And these get picked up by RSS feeds and get distributed through other sites and through the Internet. You can add as many articles as you like for free. It’s all Free advertising and marketing for you!
Search The World Free Stores & Auctions
This is a Free store and auction site from them:
http://www.search-the-world.com/auctions
You get your own shopping store where you can sell either by auction or just like a regular store at “Buy Now” prices. You get your own store Url which you then need to promote yourself to get more customers etc. Promote your store Url just like you would any other form of business and build up your customer base from there. You can use Paypal. Works just like Ebay but you pay no selling fees and its all 100% free to use.
http://www.adgridwork.com/
This website is great for web advertising. It’s a free targeted advertising (based on you selecting various categories you would like to be included in) and link exchange network. You put other websites text ads on your page and yours appears on others. And it really is 100% free, forever. While it’s not something that guarantees traffic it also doesn’t cost anything, so why not try it?
Press releases are also very important if you believe your site
is unique and offers a service that the general public may be interested in. You can try to do some on your own or there are websites like PRweb.com that charge small fees.
Good luck!

I am not particularly familiar with the web but have done a lot of” sales ” and the most cost effective promotion is allways word of mouth………and 1-800-#s…………flyers work real well also but there is a 6 week delay in answers from them….I used one recently as my motto in x-box 360….fightforkids.com
putting them anywhere where they will be communicated preferably for nothing….because you product or message is important eneough to create it’s own demand …would work best…………..but if you are trying to create an artificial demand for crap like madison ave……….you need$
For most people, getting high-quality targeted visitors
to their site is probably one of the “hardest” things to
do … unfortunately it’s also the most important.
The reason it’s difficult for most small businesses and
online marketers is that the majority of popular site
promotion strategies either take up A LOT of time, cost
a lot of money, or are too risky. Right?

#1 Meta Tags
I would focus on the keywords you are trying to get ranked with. Your Meta Tag Titles should include your keywords.
Heres an example meta tag title:
Pandora.com – Pandora Radio – Listen to Free Internet Radio, Find New Music.
Keywords: Pandora Radio, Free Internet Radio, Find New Music
Do a search for these keywords and you’ll see that pandora ranks on the first page. The keywords in the title tags are highlighted and help the website ranking and also stand out.
#2 Create backlinks
If you check the backlinks on pandora there are over 120,000 backlinks. Backlinks are a great way to help get your site to ranked higher in search engines.
You can create backlinks a couple of ways. A great way of creating backlinks which is affordable is Manual Directory Submission. Have your website submitted to SEO friendly directories. You can do it yourself or you can hire someone else to do it for you.
WiSurf.com provides that service.
#3 Social Bookmarking
You could use myspace, digg and other social bookmarking sites, youtube, and facebook to help promote your website. By using sites like digg or stumble upon. You create a viral effect. People will stubmle your website and if they like it they will give it a good rating and may even blog about your website which increases your backlinks and helps promote your website for FREE.
Create an account on facebook or myspace about your website and start gathering friends.
I would recommend looking into social bookmarking as this is a new era of marketing.
1. Try to put good quality content
2. Improve site crawling by submitting it to search engines & submit xml sitemap to google webmaster tools
3. Create back links preffer one way links
4. use social networking
Don’t try to achieve results too fast, give your site sometime to get best out of it.
