I have read about the importance of SEO when earning internet rankings. I will integrate SEO in due time. For starters, how do I list my site so that a person can simply type in my company’s name and find my site?

It is not necessary to submit to any search engines because they have bots which crawl the web looking for new sites (pages). It is better that they find you this way.
Also using automated software to submit to search engines or directories is a silly mistake that a number of people make.

You can register your sites in all the major search engines, by visiting the following (any or all) links…

You don’t have to submit your site to Google, that is correct. What was left out of that answer was, you need to have your link on another site. If Google finds your link on another site it will automatically crawl it. But, your link must be on another site, preferably a PR 4 or more. You should be index within a few days.
