I’d say without a doubt one of the best and free websites is Eric’s tips or Erics tips. He does a video every week or so and you can start anytime from the beginning. At least it will be mostly good information and not that salesy.

One of the first things you should learn when you’re trying to develop your own website is article marketing. Without a doubt, article marketing is one of the best ways to optimize your website without spending so much money. All you really need when you’re in this branch of online marketing is enough writing skills and research. There are, however, a few technical things you need to think about when you’re doing article marketing for your website.
Using keywords
What we call keywords are actually strings of words that people usually use to look for websites in a search engine. As a response to a search engine user’s “query”, the system then crawls the net to look for web content that contains these specific words. If you’re a driven website developer, you’ll definitely want to make sure that your articles contain the most popular keywords used online. Every niche, like tennis for example, has its own list of popular search queries or keywords.
You need to be careful about using too many keywords on your articles, though. While keyword repetition does help when it comes to ranking a webpage higher, too many keywords in a single article can make your content look unattractive. Make sure that you only use keywords when and where necessary. You wouldn’t want random keyword inclusions sticking out of your website’s content.
Information and length
You also need to keep two things in mind when you’re writing your online articles: information and length. As much as possible, don’t be too wordy or roundabout when you’re explaining something in your article. If you can simply go directly to the point, you should do so. Make sure, too, that your article doesn’t ramble on and on. Include only useful information in your online articles to gain the trust of your human visitors.

Yahoo (publishers network, Answers)
etc.
Use those websites to advertise your website. Thats all you really need.

Google Adwords has a tutorial that will help with concepts as well.
I’d start by checking out marketing forums online.
The online world changes so fast that by the time the book hit the market it would be outdated.
