that means the link counts for 0 as a backlink

I think it will do. Because search engines like google mainly looks for back links + other factors to determine the page rank of a website.

John W’s Answer is probably the best so far, but I would like to highlight that Yahoo doesnt ignore nofollow for its own search engine for discovery purposes.

Each search engine is different, but overall, yes the links do count towards SEO ranking.
Example: when you ask questions in Google; you will get links to Yahoo Answers.
The crawlers (unless using a specific filter) will search every available page.

Yes and No
If you look at the code of the page, you’ll see a rel=”nofollow” in the link a href which tells Google not to bother with it. So, Google should then ignore that link in building it’s search engine results, and they say this in their blog http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/01/p…
However, if you use Google to look for pages which link to you, then you do see the Yahoo answers pages.
So, jury’s out on that one, but overall, I wouldn’t rely on Yahoo Answers to give you a good SE rating.

In terms of increasing your Google PageRank then the links on Yahoo Answers has no real influence. This is because as somebody else pointed out the source links contain ‘no follow’ code, which stops Google from accessing the source site.
However, from a site visibility perspective then it definately has a positive impact. For example, if someone searches for this question on Google then Yahoo Answers will appear near the top of the natural results, meaning that any websites mentioned within the Yahoo question or answer can be accessed by the site viewer. This can help to increase visitors to the source sites.
Also, if a a question is answered effectively then it will add credability to the Yahoo member who took the time to answer. Then the site that they list within the source also gains credability because a lot of the times the person answering the questions actually works for the company they are listing within the source.
So, answering questions on Yahoo Answers doesn’t help to increase your search engine rankings but it does have a number of other advantages that can have an impact on your website.
